Fish Nuggets with Orange Sauce

Just like it sounds, chunks of fish breaded with orange sauce and flour then more orange sauce on top! Serve over just about anything or by themselves.

Ingredients

  • 4 Tilapia filets (from frozen is fine)
  • 3 Large Naval Organges
  • 1 Orange zest (use whole orange)
  • 1 tb butter (for roux)
  • 1 tb 4 (for roux)
  • 2 cups Vegetable Oil (For frying)
  • ¼ cup Chicken Broth
  • Spices

  • ¼ tsp Lawry's fire roasted chile and garlic blend
  • ¼ tsp Ginger Powder
  • ¼ tsp Cinnamon Powder
  • ¼ tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 clove Garlic (finley chopped)
  • ¼ tsp paprika
  • 1 tb Chopped Basil
  • Breading

  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ tb Salt
  • ½ cup orange sauce
  • ½ tb pepper

    Zest an entire orange

    Squeeze the juice from all three oranges into a bowl. Make sure to strain out any pulp

    Add broth and orange juice to a pot on medium high heat
  • 4
    Add spices and garlic and bring to a simmer
  • 5
    While sauce is heating add butter and four to make a roux
  • 6
    Once sauce is simmering reduce heat to medium low and whisk in roux. Let reduce

    Separate half of the sauce into another bowl. Put flour, salt, and pepper into another bowl. Then take thawed fish and cut into bite size chunks.

    Drop fish chunks into separated sauce then into flour, coating lightly. Have oil heating up in a pan

    Once all chunks are coated, whisk about 1 and 1/2 Tbs of the four used for breading into the sauce used for breading. Add the sauce back to the pot of remaining sauce and bring back to a simmer, whisking well.

    Once oil is hot fry the fish nuggets to perfection. They will not have a very thick breading like chicken nuggets but it is worth it.

    Once the nuggets are done you can serve them on a bed of rice, or grits, or vegetables, or by themselves. Either pour the orange sauce over the top or cover the nuggets in sauce first.
