Dad's Simple Apple Pie With A Crusty Topping

This is an easy recipe for anyone. A great one for using up autumn apples - you don't have to use cooking apples - or extra pastry. You could also add blackberries (with a little more sugar if they are sharp) or other fruits. A very easy recipe to experiment with or to have as it is!

Ingredients

  • 4 Cooking Apples (Chopped)
  • 250 g Shortcrust Pastry
  • A squirt Lemon Juice
  • 3 tbsps Water
  • 30 g Caster Sugar
  • 2 slices White Bread (In breadcrumb form)
  • 2 tbsps Demerara Sugar

Instructions

    Add the apples, lemon juice, water and caster sugar to a pan and stew for until soft.

    Meanwhile roll out the pastry to cover a 7 inch flan dish.

    Remove the apples from the heat and add into the dish.
  • 4
    Mix the demerara sugar and the breadcrumbs and sprinkle over the apples.
  • 5
    Bake in a pre-heated oven (200/fan 180) for half an hour.
