Classic cottage pie recipe

Ingredients

  • black pepper (Ground)
  • salt
  • 1 bay leaf
  • an onion ((Large) chopped)
  • 1 ½ carrot (chopped)
  • 500 g beef mince
  • 500 g water
  • 1 oxo cube
  • 5 teaspoons bisto (heaped)
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • Topping

  • 55 ml milk
  • 75 g butter
  • 800 g potato (peeled and chopped)

Instructions

    Preheat the oven to 190C/375F/Gas 5.

    Heat the oil in a large pan. Add the onion and carrot and cook over a medium heat for until soft.

    Add the minced beef and cook for to brown

    Add the tomatoes, purée, beef stock, bay leaf and thyme

    Cover and simmer for . Season

    Meanwhile, to make the topping, boil the potatoes and parsnips in water until soft. Drain and mash with the butter and milk. Stir in the horseradish and season with salt and pepper.

    Spoon the meat into an ovenproof dish. Top with the mash and bake for until golden brown

      No. This is still the best cottage pie out there. The picture is not of the cottage pie in this recipe, but rest assured, you'll impress all your friends if you make this
