Caramels

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Butter or Margarine
  • 1 pound Lt. Brown Sugar
  • 1 can Sweetened Condensed milk
  • 1 cup Light Corn Syrup
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 ½ tsps Vanilla

    Butter a 9 X 13 pan and set aside. In a heavy bottomed saucepan, over med heat combine all ingredients except vanilla. Bring to a boil stirring constantly. Heat to 234 and 240 degrees. (or until small amount of syrup dropped into cold water and forms a soft ball and flattens when removed from water. Cook at that temp. for . Take off heat and stir in vanilla. Pour into 9 X 13 and let it cool to room temp. Takes a while. I put mine in refrigerator for a bit and it didn't hurt them. When set, cut into pieces I cut mine a little smaller that a quarter. Then wrap each piece with wax paper. I roll mine to that I can twist each end of wax paper. These make a bunch.
