. shortening
1 c
. sugar

eggs
¾ tsp
vanilla
1 ½ c
. flour
2 tsps
baking powder
1 c
. brown sugar
⅓ c
. pecans (chopped)
Instructions
Keep screen awake

Preheat oven to 325º F. Grease 11x7x1-in. jellyroll pan. Divide 1 egg.

Cream shortening; then gradually beat in white sugar.

Beat in whole egg & egg yolk; stir in 1/2 of vanilla.

Mix flour & baking powder together; then gradually stir into shortening mixture.

Spread batter into baking pan.

Beat egg white till foamy. Continue beating, gradually adding brown sugar, till stiff peaks are formed.

Stir remaining vanilla into egg whites.

Spread meringue over batter in pan.

Sprinkle pecans over meringue.

Bake till lightly browned (about
25-mins
.).

Cool & cut into 2-in. squares.
