Almás Főtt Hús (Cooked Meat With Apples)

My mother cut this recipe for meat leftovers out of a Hungarian language newspaper. I'm not sure when or which one, but I know it would have had to be no earlier than 1957 & it would have been one published in the US. I'm almost amazed that it was written down because it uses the pinch of this, handful of that method instead of specific measurements.

Ingredients

  • meat (cooked)
  • lard
  • apples
  • salt
  • lemon juice
  • 1 c. water (Option 1a)
  • 1 c. meat broth (Option 1b)

Keep screen awake
  • 1
Cut meat into rough chunks. Pare & chop apples.

  • 4
Bring to boil; then simmer till apples are soft.
